Now that The Force Awakens has come out on Blue Ray/DVD, we can focus on the next Star Wars film. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first ever spin off film in the saga’s history. It takes place right before the events of Episode IV: A New Hope. The main plot ties right into the 1977 film, as the Rebels are getting overwhelmed in skirmish after skirmish with the Empire. So a team is put together in a desperate attempt to save the Rebellion and strike a major blow against the evil Empire. The team is tasked to steal the plans to the Death Star.
What really excites me about this film is that everything has the gritty, classic feel of the early Star Wars films. For the first time in 33 years we are getting live action footage of At-At Walkers. Looking at the trailer and the above image, you can see them striding on to a beach, in dominating force. It reminds me of a sci-fi version of Normandy. Felicity Jones plays the new heroine, Jyn Erso. She seems to be a loose canon type, far removed from what we saw in The Force Awakens with Rey. I think this will be a welcome change, as this era already has a heroic character in Princess Leia. If this was not incredible enough, there are reports that Darth Vader will make a return as well. While this has yet to be officially confirmed, it is strongly likely.
So if your a Star Wars fan there is much to be excited about moving forward. If your like me, and you love the old films, this one is right up your alley.
